Funny aint it. How we hate the bad-guys in all the movies (well most... Exempt is The Joker via Heath Ledger; maybe the bad in: The good, the bad, the weird ). Why is that?

Normally the anti-hero is the hero; just that the anti-hero had followed a darker path or had been in some way wronged and that had lead to their following a life of whatever it is they want.

But have we ever thought of why we actually hate the villain? I was pushed to this question one day. Not for any particular reason but just because my mind tends to wonder (as if i had ADD). I have by process of elimination come to my few reasons of why i hate (hate is such a strong word, I'd rather say disdain).

Instead of the usual suspects: because we need somebody to hate in a movie. Because the villian is immoral. because the villian is doing evil against those we are supposed to support. I have come up with more appropriate reasons other than those of pure necessity.

1) They are assholes: Yes. Admit it. The villain is usually always an asshole. They know it. And they are proud of it. They kill you because they can. They disrupt society because it amuses them. They are free to do what ever they want: They are the ones with true freedom of choice because they don't give a shit about those things which mean so much to you... your feelings. Most of the time we find ourselves bending over backwards and twisting our joints out of their sockets just to please people we would other-wise slice open and let bleed while keeping them alive long enough to witness maggots grow out of their decapitated bodies. The villain spits in the face of conventional wisdom/societal consensus. You can't.

2) They do not submit to anybody. Unless of course they have a big bad daddy; Sweet tooth and Dark tooth comes to mind. But typically they set the rules and make the hero run cleverly made mazes like rats while watching like a scientist. The villain emits disrespect and oozes anarchy (not in the sense of mindless carnage but anarchy in the sense of "no government"). Because of this they get to be happy and do not need to feel disappointment when they disappoint somebody atop them. Sure they get punished by their big boss... but we all know thats just a form of erotic pleasure. You know sometimes the hero is such an idiot; i would assume that the villain lost or chose to be defeated because they were to receive a spanking from the master. You on the other hand. Submit to mummy.

Oh man. There is class very soon. So i may or may not choose to finish this spontaneous rant some other day. In the mean-time enjoy living your life in a box.
